Pro Tips for Georgia Tax Setup

This information will let RemoteTeam file & pay your GA-state payroll taxes — so that you don't have to.

GA Withholding Number

If your company doesn’t yet have a GA withholding number, you’ll need to get one before you can run payroll. If your company is already incorporated in GA, you can find it on any notice received from Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) or you can call the DOR at 877-423-6711. If you haven’t incorporated your business yet, or did so outside of GA and haven’t yet registered the company with the state of GA, you (or your lawyer) will need to register you business with GA to get a withholding number.

Current Tax Deposit Schedule

Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) rejects payments if the schedule is incorrect. You may find your deposit schedule on the registration verification letter sent to you by the DOR. Quarterly schedule is generally assigned to companies with monthly withholding totalling less than $200. Companies with state withholding of less than $50,000 in the look back period July 1 through June 30 are assigned a monthly schedule, and those with more withholding than that, a semi-weekly schedule. If you're unsure what your deposit schedule is, please call the DOR at (877) 423-6711

Current Unemployment Tax Rate

New employers in Georgia will generally be taxed at 2.70% and existing employers between 0.04 to 8.1 in 2019. If you have run payroll in GA previously, you can find your GA Unemployment Rate on the notice sent by the DOL or calling the agency at (404) 232-3300.

GA DOL Account Number

If your company doesn’t yet have a Department of Labor (DOL) Employer Account Number, you’ll need to get one before you can run payroll. If your company is already incorporated in GA, you can find your employer account number on any notice received from the DOL. If you haven’t incorporated your business yet, or did so outside of GA and haven’t yet registered the company with the state of GA, you (or your lawyer) will need to register you business with GA DOL.
